A listing of sets commonly used in Algebra:

REAL NUMBERS: Includes all sets listed below:

RATIONAL (any number that can be written as a fraction) and IRRATIONAL (any number that can't)

The RATIONAL NUMBERS include INTEGERS (...-2, -1, 0, 1, 2, ...) and NON-INTEGERS (any fraction that's not an integer)

The INTEGERS include WHOLE NUMBERS (0, 1, 2, 3, ...) and NEGATIVE INTEGERS.

The WHOLE NUMBERS include the NATURAL NUMBERS (1, 2, 3, ...).

In addition to REAL NUMBERS, we will also discuss a larger set called the COMPLEX NUMBERS. The COMPLEX NUMBERS include both REAL and IMAGINARY numbers.
